Spend 3 days exploring the beautiful areas of Monteverde and Arenal. See amazing cloud forests, waterfalls, nature reserves, local farms, wildlife, Baldi hot springs plus Costa Rica's largest lake and most active volcano! Enjoy the thrill of riding Costa Rican style on our healthy and well-trained horses. This trip is designed for anyone who likes to ride horses and is interested in seeing Monteverde and Arenal while riding.
Ride the back roads of Monteverde, visit the parts of countryside normally not seen by tourists!
Then ride from Monteverde to Arenal on the 'Lake Trail'.
Our trip starts in Monteverde and finishes in La Fortuna the nearest town to the volcano. This package does not include transportation to Monteverde or onward from La Fortuna. We can easily arrange such transportation for those interested or you can make you own way to Monteverde and then on to the beach or someplace after the trip stops in La Fortuna.
Included on Trip: 2 night's accommodation (2 nights in Monteverde). In Monteverde we use Hotel Miramontes whenever possible. Hotel Miramontes is a family run B&B located 5 minute taxi ride to Santa Elena where you will find various restaurants, shops and services.
All transportation is included from the time the tour begins in Monteverde, until the time it stops in the town of La Fortuna, to and from all of the horse tours listed below:

It is also possible to add another night in Monteverde and to include a guided visit to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. We are flexible and able to meet your needs and schedule.
Day 1
Our trip starts in Monteverde. The mountain paradise settled in by Quakers some fifty years ago. When you are ready to start riding (no later than 3:00 pm) we will pick you up at Hotel Miramontesv for a gentle ride of about 2.5 hours. This ride is organised with the owner of Horse Trek Monteverde or one of his guides, on well-trained and well cared for horses.
Marvin is a great character and a fantastic rider. There is little he does not know about horses in Costa Rica. He claims to have started riding before he was born as his mother used to ride pregnant! By 8 years old he was training many of the horses in the area and his love of horses is evident. The ride will be along little used back roads. passing by farms of coffee, sugar cane and bananas. You will see wonderful views of the pacific coast and forests. After the ride we will drop you off at your hotel where you will have the remainder of the day for any Monteverde Activities you may be interested in.
Day 2
ALL DAY COWBOY HORSEBACK RIDE
If you are a horse lover than you are going to love this tour! It is great value and a wonderful experience.
You'll start off by helping to prepare the horses (if you wish to - please let us know or we'll just have the horses ready for you) and learn how we saddle up in Costa Rica and see the type of equipment we use. After getting the horses ready you''ll set off for an all-day excursion. The route used to get to the small farm owner by Marvin and his wife, Janet Ellis, is only accessible by horseback for many months of the year.
The journey to the farm passed some amazing scenery and you´'ll definitely need your camera! A picnic is provided by the river side where monkeys are normally hanging around cooling off in the trees and many birds. There is plenty of opportunity to swim in the river and just relax, before setting off again in a different direction to pass through some more farms in the area. As the zone is hilly the views points are simply stunning.
Along the route back there will be another stop for a quick snack or soft drink and to soak in the local atmosphere. When you return to the stable you will get an opportunity to bath and feed the horses and give them a fond pat on the neck adios!
Day 3
Morning: Ride to La Fortuna. An alternative way to travel to see the Arenal Volcano, one of the ten most active volcanoes in the world! This day we change horses and companies and you will travel along Arenal Lake from the Rio Chiquito to the Cano Negro River (near El Castillo). We follow a beautiful lakeside route with good safe trails in ALL weather, many tropical birds and views of the volcano, scenic jungle parts. Ride is suitable for all level of riders. This wonderful journey includes a boat ride across the Arenal Lake and a fruit break and water. Approximately 5 1/2 hours (3 hours on horse).
You will arrive at around 1.30pm. In the evening there are optional Volcano Hikes and Hot Springs.

Included on Trip: 2 night's accommodation and breakfast (2 nights in Monteverde) all transport to horse tours and all horse tours in the itinerary.
Not Included: Flights to Costa Rica, accommodation in San Jose or Arenal, meals (except breakfast), optional tours or transportation to other tours.
What to Bring: T-shirts, shorts, long pants for riding, sweater or light jacket, sandals, light hiking boots, rain jacket, sun screen, insect repellant, any personal medication, riding hat if you want one (they are not compulsory in Costa Rica), traveler's insurance (to include white-water rafting and horse riding), full passport (a driving license is not sufficient), traveler's cheques and a credit card (VISA, other cards are difficult to use in Monteverde).
