Hotel Don Carlos' name comes from part of its history. The namesake dates back to the beginning of the last century, over four family generations have run the hotel. Don Carlos is now run by his great granddaughter, Lupita Waelar Balser. The archeological theme in which the Hotel Don Carlos is decorated tells a great deal about the history of this family. Inside you can find many of Don Carlos' discoveries, original Costa Rican artifacts and pre-Colombian figures. The Don Carlos is a good size downtown San Jose hotel.
